About Palembang

Palembang, sited om the banks of River Musi, is the capital of South Sumatra and Indonesia's leading centre for oil-refining. It is also a busy trading port of rubber, coffee, petroleum, timber, and spices.The River Musi flows flight through the city, cutting it in two halves. The Ulu bank and the Ilir are lingked by theAmpera Bridge. Take a boat trip down the river, or walk over the bridge to catch a paranomic view of the city. This is alsoan ideal spot to watch's the city beatiful sunrises and sunsets. Spend some time just observing the bustle of life alongboth sides of the river.Other landmark include The Great Mosque built in 1740 and the Sriwijaya University. In town are two museums: Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin museum and Balaputradewa Museum.


Climate : hor tropical weather throughout the year, wetter from October-April.
Best time to go : Palembang is a year-around destination, but if you want to be part of some action, try August which is when it celebrates the country Independence day. The annual event is the Bidar Race held around the Independence day,with competing boats measuring 24m long and only 0.75m wide and each carrying as many as 50 oarsmen. Travel in the wet seasonsto less developed areas could be difficult.
Flavour : Pem-Empek (a Palembang snack made from fish cake wrapped in wanton skin), Mie Aloi, mie Terang Bulan, mie celor,kemplang, es kacang, pindang, and tempoyak.
Activities : historical site visits, waterfall(Curup Tenang Waterfall in Muara Enim Regency)
